The selection process for Crain’s 2024 Best Places to Work involved a rigorous evaluation by Workforce Research Group. The evaluation included an assessment of workplace policies, practices, benefits, and demographics, contributing to 20% of the total score. Additionally, a survey of thousands of employees provided insights into their experiences, working conditions, and corporate culture, making up the remaining 80% of the evaluation. Workforce Research Group then analyzed this data to determine the final rankings.

To be considered for this recognition, companies had to meet several criteria:

  • Employ at least 15 full- or part-time permanent staff in Southeast Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Ingham, Livingston, Lapeer, Genesee, St. Clair, Monroe, Lenawee, and Jackson counties.
  • Operate a physical location within Southeast Michigan.
  • Be in business for at least one year by the program registration deadline.
  • Register and pay an entry fee, which covered an employer assessment, employee feedback survey, and access to a feedback data dashboard.
