Sterling Heights Master Plan

The Sterling Heights Master Plan was developed by a very active public participation process and diligent, cohesive work by the City’s Planning Commission and staff. As the City is mostly built-out today, redevelopment of underutilized or recently vacated sites was at the forefront of the City’s attention when releasing the request for proposal, and the Master Plan’s future land use plan articulates a vision to respond to this challenge. The goals and policy recommendations included in this Master Plan for the mixed-use nodes and corridors reflect realistic opportunities for future incremental public and private investment. This Master Plan was built upon the foundation set in the 2017 Master Plan and further refines goals and strategies related to housing, transportation, local economy, environmental stewardship, placemaking and community building. Public engagement was formatted in both in-person and online activities, giving residents and stakeholders a wider reach of opportunities to participate.
