Welch Road Gravity Sewer Rehabilitation

The Welch Road Gravity Sewer Rehabilitation project involved relining over 3,500 linear feet of deteriorated concrete sanitary sewer pipe using a Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) system. This method minimized traffic disruption and shortened project duration. The sewer line, ranging from 30” to 36” in diameter, had suffered significant damage from hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas, which caused up to an inch of material loss and exposed rebar, leading to structural concerns and infiltration issues. The project extended from inside the Commerce Wastewater Treatment Plant to north of Welch Road and Easy Street. A major bypass system was implemented to manage sanitary flow during cleaning and lining. Giffels Webster oversaw project administration, inspection, bypass setup and removal, post-lining testing, and restoration of disturbed areas. They also coordinated communication among all stakeholders to ensure efficient project execution. This rehabilitation restored structural integrity and improved long-term performance of the sewer infrastructure.
